Perhaps unexpected, but true - Nong Khai has a beach! Well, for at least part of the year when the river level is low, from about January to June. It is located a couple of kilometres west of town, directly under the Friendship Bridge, is about five hundred meters long beach and is a popular attraction for visitors and locals looking to relax or get some relief from the heat with a cooling swim in the river.

The top of the beach is lined with a huge covered area to give much need shade, beneath which is a host of food stalls selling a wide variety of food and drinks. Each food stall serves its own area of seating, usually in the form of low tables on large rugs placed directly on the sand.
There is a great atmosphere and spending some time at Jom Manee beach is a lot of fun, especially at the weekends when it is full of families and children playing in the water. It is perhaps most busy around the time of Song Kran where it becomes a place to relax after a hard days water-fighting in town!
